Mad Max 2: The Road Warrior

From city-journal.com:

"The final PC version of the story is likely to go like this: The desperate people left behind in New Orleans, nearly all black, had justification in brutally attacking their city because the help they frantically sought didn’t come. In truth, the looters, rapists, and murderers who have terrorized New Orleans since Monday began their post-Katrina reign of terror a full day before the situation grew truly desperate—and it was their increasingly lawless behavior that kept willing but unarmed professional and volunteer rescue workers away from the city and from the poor people who needed saving. The city must [now] be forcefully demilitarized, even as innocent victims literally starve. What has happened over the past week is an embarrassment to New Orleans—and to America."

I don't feel embarrassed. I've lived in big (Tampa, Jacksonville, Las Vegas) to really big (Los Angeles, Dallas) cities my entire adult life. Each of these cities has its combat zone, a "no go" area where the notion of civil society is illusory, where thugs and criminals prey daily on the weakest among them. Having for one reason or another found myself driving through such neighborhoods, I can tell you they are what you'd find in some third world country.

What happened in New Orleans would happen in any city in America. Law Enforcement isn't what keeps our cities from falling into anarchy and chaos. It's the decent people --of all races-- who are strong enough to fight back against the predators. Take the former out of the equation and the latter will prevail, I don't care how many police officers are on the street.
