who wrote mostly under the name Ed McBain died last week. I have read his books, especially the 87th Precinct and Matthew Hope series, since I was a teenager. I'm going to miss walking into the bookstore and spotting his latest, knowing I don't even have to read the jacket, just buy it and go.
